June 14, 2024 (Geneva, Switzerland) – The International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI), is pleased to announcement the recent approval of Dr. Prof. Heimar de Fatima Marin as President-Elect for the Academy Board.

Dr. Prof. Heimar de Fatima Marin is a Full Professor at the Federal University of São Paulo, advocating technology and communication in nursing and healthcare. She has held many President, Chair and director positions over her career including President of the Brazilian Society of Health Informatics, Chair for IMIA NI (Nursing Informatics, Director of the Graduate Program in Health Informatics, and Executive Coordinator of the Strategic Committee of UNIFESP Information Technology and Management Committee, for the Hospital University /Hospital Sao Paulo.

Dr. Marin is currently the Editor-in Chief of the International Journal of Medical Informatics and in 2009 she founded the Journal of Health Informatics of the Brazilian Society of Health Informatics, as Chief Editor.  Dr Marin is a consultant on German Hospital Oswaldo Cruz and also acts as consultant at WHO-EURO in the project Guidance on Digitalization for Health Information Systems.

Dr. Marin is an Inaugural Fellow of the Academy and has been involved with IAHSI since inception in 2017.

Dr. Marin will assume the position of IAHSI Board President on August 26th, at the conclusion of the Academy’s 2024 Plenary session being held in Athens in conjunction with EFMI’s MIE 2024 conference.  “I am delighted to congratulate Heimar on the recent approval of her nomination to serve as the Academy’s President -Elect,” said Dr. Kaija Saranto, President of IAHSI. “I look forward to collaborating with her in my remaining term as President and as the Past President of IAHSI.”


IAHSI, established in 2017, as part of the IMIA. The Academy is similar to other national academies of sciences. It seeks to nominate and elect those whose contributions in informatics are recognized internationally. The goal is to promote the dissemination of knowledge and best practices, foster new ideas, and encourage worldwide collaboration and sharing of expertise and resources.
