It is with great sorrow that we share the news about the passing of Dr. Marisa Wilson with the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) community.  IMIA shares the loss of Dr. Wilson with the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). Dr. Wilson’s passing will be felt by so many from IMIA’s NI (Nursing Informatics) community from around the world, and our thoughts go out to her family, dear friends, and colleagues.

Dr. Wilson was an Associate Professor and the Director of Nursing Health Services Leadership Graduate Pathways at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing. Prior to her academic appointments, she worked in the clinical arena implementing health information systems in public health and acute care settings.

Dr. Wilson was actively involved in nursing informatics leadership for the American Academy of Nursing, American Medical Informatics Association, the HIMSS Global Conference Education Committee planning committee, HIMSS TIGER workgroups and IMIA NI. She was the 2022 recipient of the HIMSS ANI Transforming Informatics Leadership Award and was nominated as a Fellow to IMIA’s International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI) in 2020.
