Remembering Hans Peterson (January 27, 2021)
It is with great sorrow that we share the news about the passing of Dr. Hans Peterson with the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) community. Dr. Peterson’s passing will be felt by so many and our thoughts go out to his wife, Ulla, and his family.
Dr. Peterson’s presence within IMIA has been steadfast and unwavering for well over 40 years both as a leader and friend. Dr. Peterson was an Honorary Fellow of IMIA, IMIA President from 1983 – 1986, a recipient of the 2010 IMIA François Grémy Award of Excellence and was elected to IMIA’s Academy, the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI), as part of the Inaugural Class of Fellows in 2017.
IMIA shares the loss of Dr. Peterson with our good friends, the Swedish Federation for Medical Informatics (SFMI), and the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI), he was a true founding pioneer to us all. An unassuming man with an abundance of integrity, Dr. Peterson has touched and inspired so many of us, he will be sorely missed.
Dr. Sabine Koch, IMIA President, will be preparing a tribute to Dr. Peterson to be published in the IMIA Yearbook to celebrate his incredible contributions he has made to IMIA, EFMI and SFMI.
