Professor Hiroshi Takeda recognized for exceptional contributions to IMIA

The International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) is pleased to announce Professor Hiroshi Takeda as the recipient of IMIA’s Honorary Membership, an IMIA Fellow.  IMIA recognizes individual members who have earned exceptional merit in furthering the aims and interests of IMIA by awarding Honorary Lifetime Membership status within IMIA as an Honorary Member, an IMIA Fellow.

“It was a great honour to recognize Professor Takeda for his outstanding and exceptional contributions to IMIA”, said Dr. Chris Lehmann, IMIA Past President. “Professor Takeda has played a 13 year long, distinguished role on the IMIA board, where he has represented IMIA as the liaison to IFIP since 2007.  He has further served IMIA in many roles as the organizer for the first IMIA/IFIP joint meeting in Brisbane in 2010, Co-chair of Scientific Program Committee of MedInfo 2001 and as the IMIA Board’s Vice President Special Affairs from 2004 to 2007.”

Professor Takeda has served the Medical Informatics Community both nationally and internationally.  A graduate of Osaka University Medical School (OUMS) in 1971 (MD) and Osaka University in 1979 (PhD), Professor Takeda was a Postdoctoral Fellow of the University of Chicago (1977 to 1978). He was appointed Senior Specialist for Scientific Affairs at the Ministry of Education of Japan (1983-1985) and later became an Assistant Professor in the 1st Dept. of Medicine, OUMS (1985-1987). He advanced to Associate Professor (1987-1998) in the Department of. Medical Information Science in the hospital (OUMSH) and later became a   Professor of the Department (1998-2010) of Medical Information Science, Graduate Medical School of Osaka University.

Prof Takeda played many important roles such as the founding director of the Center for Healthcare quality management in OUMSH (2001-2007) and the Chairman of the Safety Management Association of the Japanese National University Hospitals (2002-2007 ). He was the President of the Graduate School of Health Care Sciences, Jikei Institute (2012-2019). Currently, Prof Takeda serves as the Director of the Healthcare Center (Kansai) in the Dentsu Company.

Professor Takeda was the Co-editor of Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine (1988-1991) and an Associate editor of International Journal of Medical Informatics (1999-2003).
