Medical Informatics Association of Malawi (MIAM)

Mission Statement
To provide an organizational framework through which individuals currently working in healthcare related information technology roles can advance their skills and share their knowledge with others.

Goal
To contribute to the improvement of healthcare provision in Malawi through the application of medical informatics principles.

Objectives

  1. To increase awareness and promote medical informatics as a means of improving patient care in Malawi.
  2. To share examples of systems that have worked successfully in sub-Saharan Africa and also systems that have failed, so that other parties can learn from the mistakes of others.
  3. To share tools that have been developed (both hardware and software, repository of software such as LINUX, MySQL).
  4. To create a ‘virtual community’ of people who work in healthcare and are interested in medical informatics.

General Form of the Association
The Medical Informatics Association of Malawi (MIAM), herein referred to as ‘the Association’ shall be formed as an autonomous entity to be run through elected office bearers who shall serve on voluntary basis and abide by the relevant provisions of the Association’s Constitution. The association will be overseen by a General Assembly of registered members (see proposed organizational structure).

Main Function of the Association
The main task of the association will be to discuss the application of medical informatics principles relating to the design and implementation of projects that members are involved in.
