IMIA Working Groups and Special Interest Groups (WG and SIG) are the primary mechanism through which IMIA pursues its scientific activity in specific fields of the wider domain of health and biomedical informatics. A WG or SIG comprises a group of experts with a particular interest, and its activities are reported to, and approved by, the IMIA General Assembly each year.

Each WG or SIG has a designated leadership (Chair and Vice Chair, and sometimes other officers). The Chair is the main link to the IMIA General Assembly and to the IMIA Vice President for Working Groups and Special Interest Groups.

The current IMIA VP for WG/SIG is Dr. Luis Fernandez-Luque.

IMIA Working Group of the Year Award

An annual IMIA Working Group of the Year Award is presented, for more information about the Award is available here.

 

The 2021 WG of the Year Award was presented to the Accident and Emergency Informatics Working Group at the IMIA GA virtual meeting on December 04, 2022.

 

 

The 2020 WG of the Year Award was presented at the IMIA GA virtual meeting on November 21, 2021. The award was made to two groups jointly: The Nursing Informatics Special Interest Group (IMIA NI SIG) and the Student and Emerging Professionals Special Interest Group (IMIA SEP SIG).

 

The 2019 WG of the Year Award was presented to the Student and Emerging Professionals Special Interest Group (IMIA SEP SIG) at the IMIA GA virtual meeting on December 6, 2020.

 

 

The 2018 WG of the Year Award was presented to the Telehealth WG at the IMIA GA meeting in Lyon, France on 26 August, 2019.

 

 

The 2017 WG of the Year Award was presented to the Nursing Informatics Special Interest Group at the IMIA GA meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 09 October, 2018.

 

 

The 2016 WG of the Year Award was presented to the the History in Biomedical and Health Informatics WG  at the IMIA GA meeting in Hangzhou, China on 22 August, 2017.

 

 

WG-Award-2015

The 2015 WG of the Year Award was presented at the IMIA GA meeting in Munich, Germany on 28 August, 2016. The award was made to two groups jointly: The History in Biomedical and Health Informatics WG and the Technology Assessment and Quality Development WG.

 

The 2014 WG of the Year Award was presented at the IMIA GA meeting in São Paulo, Brazil on 20 August, 2015. The award was made to two groups jointly: The History in Biomedical and Health Informatics WG and the Technology Assessment and Quality Development WG.

The 2013 WG of the Year Award was presented at the IMIA General Assembly meeting in New Delhi on 31 October, 2014. The award was made to three groups jointly: Nursing Informatics SIG, Social Media WG, and Technology Assessment and Quality Development WG.

The 2012 WG of the Year Award was presented at the IMIA General Assembly meeting in Copenhagen on 20 August, 2013 to the IMIA Social Media Working Group. A certificate was presented to Chris Paton (retiring chair) and Luis Luque (new chair).

The 2022  WG of the year Award will be made at the IMIA General Assembly 2023 in Sydney Australia at MedInfo 2023; selection will be made by the award selection panel on the basis of IMIA activity reports as submitted by WGs/SIGs.
