IMIA New Career Opportunity Posting – Professorship (W3) Medical Informatics at the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG)

The University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) invites applications for a full Professorship (W3) Medical Informatics, (Successor to Prof. Dr. Otto Rienhoff), commencing as soon as possible.

The UMG aims to advance its focal research areas neurosciences, cardiovascular medicine, and oncology by integrating approaches from both translational and systems medicine. This is achieved in part as a partner location of the health research centers German Center for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK) and the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE). The UMG is furthermore core partner of the HiGHmed Consortium within the National Medical Informatics Initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). For the latter, the UMG is building a new Medical Research Data Integration Center (UMGMeDIC) operated by the Institute for Medical Informatics.

The W3 professorship entails heading the Institute for Medical Informatics, consisting of approximately 50 staff members presently divided into four mostly independent research groups. The aim will be to expand this structure to a fifth research group and include two W2 associate professorships and one W1 junior professorship.

On the Göttingen Campus, the Institute for Medical Informatics collaborates closely with other informatics and data science departments.

Ideal candidates for this professorship should have an internationally recognized profile in research and operation of information infrastructures in translational medicine.

Further requirements include experience with the acquisition, implementation, and management of competitive third-party funded research projects as well as with international projects.

The position will include the coordination of medical informatics teaching units at the UMG, the Health Campus Göttingen as well as the IMIA-certified Bachelor and Master Programs in “Medical Informatics” at the University of Göttingen, including the HiGHmed teaching modules.

A habilitation or an equivalent scientific qualification is required, as well as leadership skills and teaching experience. Further requirements for the appointment of university professors are laid out in the current version of § 25 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Lower Saxony.

The UMG reserves the right of appointment.

We especially encourage applications from foreign candidates. The UMG strives to increase the number of women on its scientific staff and therefore particularly encourages qualified women to apply. In case of applicants of equal qualification, disabled people will be given preference.

The UMG plans to include the professorship within the “Program for Women Professors”, if applicable.
