IMIA and MedInfo2017 are pleased to announce that IBM Research will once again sponsor the MedInfo Student Paper Competition at MedInfo2017, in Xiamen, China, August 21 – 25, 2017.

The competition is an important part of the MedInfo Scientific Program, where finalists are selected by the Scientific Program Committee, during the paper selection process for the congress and provides students the opportunity to share their research at a global level and to learn about international biomedical and health informatics issues.

Student finalists will present their papers and answered questions to the 2017 panel of judges, the day before the official opening of MedInfo2017. Winners and finalists of the competition will be announced and recognized by the VP of MedInfo and representatives of IBM Research at the opening ceremonies of MedInfo2017 on August 27th, 2017 in Xiamen, China.

At MedInfo2015 first place in the competition was awarded to Ruth Agbakoba for her paper “Implementing a National Scottish Digital Health and Wellbeing Service at Scale: A Qualitative Study of Stakeholders’ Views” with co-authors being M McGee-Lennon, MM Bouamrane, N Watson and F Mair. Second place was awarded to the paper, “Evidence-based Heuristics for Evaluating Demands on eHealth Literacy and Usability in a Mobile Consumer Health Application” by Helen Monkman and co-authors, J Griffith and A Kushniruk. Daniel A Rizzato Lede, and his co-authors S Benitez, JC Mayan III, MI Smith, A Baum, D Luna, and F Gónzalez Bernaldo de Quirós took third place with his paper, “Patient Safety at Transitions of Care: Use of a Compulsory Electronic Reconciliation Tool in an Academic Hospital”
