Czech Society for Biomedical Engineering and Medical Informatics
The Society of Biomedical Engineering and Medical Informatics is one of the medical societies gathered in the Czech Association of Medical Societies of J.E. Purkyne. Medical Informatics Section of the Czech Society of Biomedical Engineering has been established in 1978. Through this section the activities in the field of medical informatics have been developed. Nowadays the Society is mostly concerned with activities in three sections “Medical Informatics Section”, “Clinical Engineering Section” and “Biophysics” section. The Czech Society of Biomedical Engineering is the member of International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA), European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) and International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE).

The general board of eleven elected society members rules the Society. The President of the Society of Biomedical Engineering and Medical Informatics is J. Hozman, the Medical Informatics Section is headed by J. Zvárová (IMIA representative and EFMI representative), the Clinical Engineering Section by V. Gropic and Biophysics Section by Z. Grossman. The Society has issued the journal Physician and Technology, chief editor K.Roubík, The Society has structural links with other medical societies J.E. Purkyne http://www.cls.cz/ and co-operates with other Czech scientific societies in this field, mainly Society for Cybernetics and Informatics and Czech Scientific and Technical Society. The Society has close contacts with scientific societies in Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland and Austria.

The main activities of the Society of Biomedical Engineering and Medical Informatics in 2008 were consisted of workshops and conferences. Workshops connected with eHealth were organized on the topics Teleeducation and teleconsultation as a part of eHealth (March 2nd, 2008), Electronic medical guidelines and their application in healhcare practice (March 18th, 2008), State of the art of the eHealth projects within the Czech Republic (June 4th, 2008), Pieces of knowledge and experiences with the preparation and implementation of the eHealth projects within the Czech Republic (October 2nd, 2008). During 28th-30th Biophysical Days were organized and during 29thJuly to 1st August Workshop of the IEC TC87 working groups WG8, WG9, WG13 and and during 11th-12th September 2008 patient ultrsound interaction.

The Society has been involved in Biosignal international conferences in Brno each two years. The last conference Biosignal co-sponsored by EURASIP was held in Brno, June 2008 and in 2008 also in the conference.
