MIE 2023 – “Caring is Sharing – Exploiting Value in Data for Health and Innovation” @ Göteborg, Sweden
May 22 – May 25 all-day

MIE 2023 is organised by: EFMI – European Federation for Medical Informatics and SFMI – Swedish Federation for Medical Informatics

Call for Papers Deadline February 1, 2023https://www.mie2023.org/call-for-papers

In 2018 SFMI was honoured to host the MIE congress; now, four years later, we are back again with MIE 2023. One reason to be back so quickly is to harmonise with the presidency of the EU that Sweden has during the first half of 2023. The organisation will be much the same as for MIE 2023.

It will be a co-arrangement with our yearly Swedish conference Vitalis where the participants can select either MIE 2023 or Vitalis sessions. However, some of the Vitalis sessions are in Swedish.

The site for the conference will be The Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre a huge expo centre including Gothia Tower Hotel with more than 1500 rooms.

Medical Informatics is a field of great importance, and our knowledge is rapidly growing at a speed that exceeds expectations. Previous MIE conferences have all been successes where most scientists working in this field have come together. The scientific program will include the State of the Art in the area, and we hope that MIE 2023 in Göteborg will be a great and memorable event for all of us.

The venue will be at the the splendid exhibition centre, The Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre, situated in the centre of Göteborg, close to hotels of all categories from 1 to 5 stars. It is a great pleasure for us in the organising committee, on behalf of EFMI and SFMI, to welcome you to participate in the 34th MIE conference in Göteborg.

IAHSI Webinar – Mobilizing Computable Biomedical Knowledge (MCBK): An Informatics and Global Opportunity @ Webinar
Sep 5 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Mobilizing Computable Biomedical Knowledge (MCBK): An Informatics and Global Opportunity

September 05, 2023 | 12 Noon – 1:00 PM UTC

Please join us on September 5th to hear from Professors Jeremy Wyatt and Chuck Friedman on the Mobilizing Computable Biomedical Knowledge (MCBK) global movement.   Since 2018, the MCBK movement has sought to complement efforts to achieve “FAIRness” of data with equally important efforts to make biomedical knowledge (guidelines, predictive models, algorithms) FAIR and trusted.  From its beginnings in the United States, MCBK spread to the United Kingdom in 2019, and escalated to a global scale in 2022.   New Chapters of MCBK are forming and a virtual global MCBK meeting will be held in October.   This webinar is designed to generate interest and participation in MCBK around the world and there is no charge to attend.

Artificial Intelligence, Causality and Personalized Medicine (AICPM 2023)  @ Leibnizhaus, Hannover
Sep 14 – Sep 15 all-day

The focus of this 2-day symposium will be to bring together researchers and medical practitioners to discuss and share advances in the applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning to medical practice and research. This symposium will provide a catalyst for interdisciplinary collaboration and dialog with the aim of knowledge sharing, research presentation, and agenda setting.

Call for abstract submission

Benefiting from a huge amount of data with multiple modalities in the big data era, the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) is contributing to advances in medical applications. Such applications include genetic data are analysed for predicting risks of cancer or treatment outcome in oncology; clinical data from electronic health records are useful for predicting specific diseases, such as sepsis in intensive care units; and bio-signals can be processed by AI for many applications, such as electrocardiography. In particular, personalised medicine will benefit from intelligent, reliable, and responsible AI systems, therefore improving care and the quality of life.

Current machine learning systems often lack understanding of the relationship between causes and effects in their domain. Causal reasoning is, therefore, being recognized as a missing piece in AI methods. Integrating causality into machine learning methods will be integral for designing next generation intelligent systems. The causality framework allows researchers to represent medical background knowledge in an explainable manner. Thus, causal AI promises to improve further personalised medical applications with trustworthy and fair decision-making.

In this context, the AICPM Symposium is calling for high-quality abstract submissions in the research field of AI and medicine, with the goal of promoting research development and agenda setting in this interdisciplinary domain.

We invite discussions at the intersection of AI and outlined topics in medicine. The research topics include, but are not limited to:

·              Specific uses and use cases of AI and ML in medical contexts, lessons learned and best practices

·              Reporting of specific data-intensive medical experiments

·              Prototypes of AI systems in medical applications, decision support systems

·              Machine learning approaches in medical applications

·              Causality of AI in personalised medicine

·              Trustworthy AI in personalised medicine

·              Ethical and fair AI in personalised medicine

The selected abstracts will be invited to be presented either in poster or oral format. There will also be an opportunity to submit full papers for publication in the Proceedings of the symposium. For submission we will follow the LNCS format. The overleaf link can be found here. The latex and word templates can be downloaded here

Each submission is limited to a maximum of two pages. The abstracts can be submitted through EasyChair here.

Important dates:

Abstract submission:                   15 May 2023

Outcome notification:                  15 June 2023
